INTRODUCTION

MNOA Chandigarh now has developed intensely since its foundation was laid. The forming of Merchant Navy Association was inspired by the initiative and untiring efforts of our veterans. The MNOA has grown into a formidable and respected organization designed by seafarers to represent their interests and promote skills and opportunities in the years ahead.

We continue to upgrade our Association to follow the present times and in the year 2019 our membership in Chandigarh and surrounding areas have crossed 780 in number.

Our participation and proactive approach has resulted in Nation-wide recognition and MNOA Chandigarh has been proudly presented with numerous awards in the Seafaring community. It Is Not Solely An Organization For Veterans But Welcomes Seafarers Of Any Age. It Particularly Wishes To Encourage Young Officers To Join Us In Our Endeavors.

History

Merchant Navy Officer’s Association (MNOA), Chandigarh, came into existence in 1989 and was funded by 7 members with a common goal of getting together ashore. The Aims And Objectives of the society for which association was established are to provide a non-political and non-religious forum for MERCHANT NAVY OFFICERS, both serving and retired. To imbibe and develop a Spirit of Brotherhood, Mutual Cooperation, Solidarity And Harmony amongst its members and consider means for their general welfare. To render all possible assistance to a Float Service Officers of The Mercantile Marine and their families, whether members or not, when approached.

To share information amongst young aspirants who are interested in taking up a career at Sea. To arrange regular social function and/or “get together” to promote the above objects. A Merchant Navy standard was introduced and members began to take part in the events.

Great credit must go to all our early ‘pioneers’ who were so resolute in their need for wider understanding and recognition. The role of the Merchant Navy and its Seafarers had been undervalued and mainly unacknowledged for too many years. (Of course, that was in Earlier Times and much has now changed).
